| INTRODUCTION |
| Shandong Umbilical Cord Blood Center (SUCBC), is located in the electronic research institute of Jinan, Shandong Province, with a total area of 2500 square meters. The center was invested by the Shandong electronic group and founded by the electronic group and Shandong medical university. Linking production with training and scientific research, it is the biggest hematopoietic stem cell center with the most advanced equipment and the highest velocity of umbilical cord blood collection and storage in our country. The center has well qualified staff members with professors, doctors and masters as the backbone. It has established a suit of processing and quality control standard from umbilical cord blood collection, storage to clinical transplantation.
As required by the National Health Administration, the center has established lamino-flow aseptic rooms and the biggest liquid nitrogen cryopreservation workshop in our country according to the cGMP standard and HLA genotyping, genetics and microorganism detection laboratories according to the GLP standard. It is well equipped with the advanced instruments as flow-cytometer, DNA amplifier and computerized freeze-control for cryopreservation. The center has its own specialists and technicians in hematology, genetics and cryobiology It invited academician Lu Daopei from The Chinese Academy of Engineering as the director of academic committee and other famous experts as members of the academic committee. The center has been visited by several senior experts leading in the field of hematology, molecular and cellular biology from The Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academy of Military Medical sciences and Tsinghua Universities and academic exchanges have been conducted. Besides providing cord blood stem/progenitor cells for clinic transplants, studies on stem/progenitor cell expansion, differentiation induction ex vivo for immuno- and gene therapy , and new approach on HLA genotyping are also being conducted here.
The center regards quality as its life, establishing the integrated document system of quality control and management according to cGMP and GLP standards. We have attached great importance to the pre and on position training activities. In order to enforce the collection and storage ability, to ensure the cord blood quality and to enhance the scientific research level, the center is well equipped with the advanced instruments as flow-cytometer, DNA amplifier, 377 DNA sequencer, fluorescent inverted microscope and UV photography system etc.
The equipment, establishment and environment are the best in the same field of our country. We have established the standardizing collection, processing and cryopreservation procedures and protocols by absorbing the advanced technology of the foreign cord blood banks and drawing on their experiences. The specialists think highly of our achievements on the production, training, management and research.
